Collapsing from vast cosmic clouds, their nuclear furnaces ignite and create heavy elements in their cores. Recycling Cassiopeia A : Massive stars in our Milky Way Galaxy live spectacular lives. Data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory (in purple) shows the X-ray glow from shock waves created as a jet from the white dwarf strikes surrounding material. Evidence for much older outbursts is seen in these spectacular structures spanning almost a light-year as observed by the Hubble Space Telescope (in red and blue). Astronomers have seen such outbursts over recent decades. But material in the cool giant star's extended envelope is pulled by gravity onto the surface of the smaller, denser white dwarf, eventually triggering a thermonuclear explosion, blasting material into space. The binary system's visible light is dominated by the red giant, itself a Mira-type long period variable star. With binoculars you can watch as R Aquarii steadily changes its brightness over the course of a year or so. The intriguing system consists of a cool red giant star and hot, dense white dwarf star in mutual orbit around their common center of mass. Centered in this space-based optical/x-ray composite image it lies about 710 light years away. Variable star R Aquarii is actually an interacting binary star system, two stars that seem to have a close symbiotic relationship. A greatly missed opportunity for a fan favorite incarnation of the first X-Man no less, and if Hasbro hasn’t already done so, I hope the company reissues a much better version soon. The final verdict? While not a total loss, Marvel Legends’ Cyclops figure can be looked at as a missed opportunity. The figure would’ve benefited more with those parts sculpted on instead of being left loose as seen here the gauntlets and straps, especially, have a tendency to slip out of place when posing it for action-oriented shots. Second, the bandolier/belt, wrist gauntlets, and thigh straps. Repainting it that color would be the obvious solution if you wish to customize it, but why the developers didn’t get it right the first time is beyond me considering how yellow is such a major part of Cyclops’ look. It looks more like a light orange than the trademark bright yellow we’re used to seeing. First, the yellow (or what’s supposed to be yellow) on his costume’s accessories like the visor, bandolier, and boots is way off. Though the overall body sculpt is nice, and articulation is serviceable for its size, there are a couple of glaring issues that anyone who likes Cyclops and collects figures of the character will find rather distracting. But like the man himself, however, it’s far from perfect. It’s an enduringly popular costume – the blue and yellow colors mesh together nicely – and I couldn’t be any happier that the Marvel Legends line finally made a figure of him. In my case, I had the song stuck in my head as I shot this figure of the X-Men’s flawed team leader for not just nostalgic reasons but also because his costume was designed by comic book icon Jim Lee during his legendary run at Marvel. Optic blast the blind prophet series#If you’re a ‘90s kid, chances are you found yourself humming the theme song to X-Men: The Animated Series whenever it aired on TV.
